BRI takes auto logistics crown

Global freight forwarder Bellville Rodair International (BRI) roared into pole position and raced away as Supply Chain Partner of the year at last Thursday’s IFW Awards 2011.

Honoured for the operations of Bellville Rodair Automotive Team, an important division within the BRI’s global network, judges remarked that the company stood head and shoulders above the competition. “In all of our global locations, we have an auto specialist and handle a variety of shipments from air charters of Grand Prix cars to individual bespoke luxury cars for private buyers,” said Chairman Terry Walpole.
“Working with car manufacturers on both air and ocean, we noticed a common challenge faced when
loading the vehicles into standard shipping containers. Due to the size and value of the cars, the loading/ unloading and securing process was difficult with the risk of damage to the cars being very high,” said David Ower, MD Europe, BRI.
“Aware that our clients needed to find a safe, cost effective and flexible alternative to this problem, we introduced the Automotive Multipurpose Platform. The AMP, as it’s known to us, is a base on to which the car is secured and which is then simply pushed into the container without the headache of getting the driver out of an already very tight fitting container. The introduction of the AMP as standard equipment led to a 40% reduction in shipping costs and a significant increase in flexibility for the customer,” adds Walpole.
